ARE PAGERS PROVIDED? Wireless internet service through Cable ONE is now installed in the dorms for medical students on VA rotations in Boise.  You will need a wireless card for your laptop. Pagers available for students assigned to wards but not for ambulatory care..

DESCRIPTION OF HOUSING: Private dormitory room with one twin bed. Separate women’s and men’s restroom and shower facilities.

WHAT IS PROVIDED IN APARTMENT/DORMITORY? Brand new for July 2007 - Kitchen and laundry remodel. Teh VA dorms will have a stove, dishwasher, full size sink, new cabinets and refridgerator, washer and dryer. Linen and pillow included, but you may wish to bring your own sheets and blanket if you choose. Dresser, nightstand, mirror, large closets, windows with curtains. One phone out in the hall, which gets heavy use in the evening (long distance phone calls not possible without calling card). Common area with furniture, iron and ironing board, TV/DVD player.

WHAT IS SUGGESTED THAT THE STUDENT BRING? Alarm clock, clothes hangers, blankets, small bedside or desk lamp, Tupperware dishes for microwaving food. If you have a radio, tape player or VCR, bring it. A toaster and coffee maker would be nice to bring as well.

TRANSPORTATION: Recommended but not required. Student housing is located on the VA campus, however students are assigned to some clinics away from the VA during the outpatient portion of the clerkship. Students without transportation can be accomodated with alternate clinics or in the ER.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From Boise Airport, take Vista Avenue. Coming down the hill into downtown, it becomes Capitol Boulevard. Turn RIGHT on Main Street, and LEFT again on 5th Street; stay straight on 5th and follow it all the way into the VA campus. At the “Y” in the road, turn right. Follow the road to the back of the hospital and look for the Emergency Room Entrance.

If driving to Boise: From I-84, take the City Center exit (I-184) and follow the road into town. Turn LEFT onto Capital Blvd and then RIGHT on Main Street, and LEFT again on 5th St; stay straight on 5th and follow it all the way into the VA campus.

WILL STUDENT RECEIVE ADDITIONAL NOTIFICATION OR INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING HOUSING BEFORE BEGINNING CLERKSHIP? Yes, site will send students an email with instructions on how to check in. Students should contact the site coordinator with specific questions.

CAN FAMILIES BE ACCOMODATED IN HOUSING? 

STUDENTS PLEASE NOTE: There will be no exceptions made to the above housing arrangements. If you have any problems with these arrangements, please contact the Academic Affairs Office.
