The Medicine Consult Service evaluation
We see patients at the request of a University of Washington referring provider. Your provider may have referred you to the Medicine Consult Clinic for an appointment prior to your operation.
In our preoperative clinic we perform a medical evaluation. This typically includes a discussion regarding your medical conditions, performing a physical examination, and often performing an EKG. Often we will request additional records from your other providers. We may ask you to undergo further diagnostic workup such as blood tests or imaging studies. Our role is to provide an assessment of your health with regard to the upcoming surgery, and to attempt to reduce potential risks to your health.
We will communicate with your surgeon the results of this evaluation. We will often see you in the hospital after surgery to provide further recommendations if needed.
Your surgeon remains your primary provider. Questions regarding the surgery itself are best directed to your surgery team.
