Lucile Townsend Henderson, shown here with her husband, Frank, will be remembered by the children who attended the couple’s island summer camp, and by the countless patients and faculty who benefit from her generosity to the UW Medicine Division of Rheumatology.
When John F. Dickson, Res. ’75, Fel. ’77, remembers Lucile Townsend Henderson, he remembers 13 happy summers spent at an island summer camp, one she ran with her husband, Frank.
“She was bright, talented, and formidable,” says Dickson. “Together with her husband, she created a priceless learning experience masquerading as fun.”
Dr. Dickson and UW Medicine will also remember Mrs. Henderson’s generosity. Mrs. Henderson’s sister died of rheumatoid arthritis at a young age, and after supporting the Division of Rheumatology for more than 20 years, Mrs. Henderson decided to make a planned gift as well. Her estate has been used to create five endowments: three professorships and two research funds — a perpetual legacy that will support the division’s faculty and promote their research efforts.
