Doctors for a Day
At the 2007 Turner Society Recognition Reception in April, four brave guests agreed to "scrub in" for a virtual anesthesia experience. Under the watchful eye (and barbed tongue) of Dr. Brian Ross, professor of anesthesiology, the four Turner Society members inject medications, track vital signs, and even insert a breathing tube — all using an astonishingly lifelike interactive mannequin. The guests make mistakes and have some good laughs along the way, but the dummy is in fact a very serious training tool, just one of many exciting new techniques pioneered by ISIS — UW Medicine’s Institute for Surgical and Interventional Simulation — to train health professionals and increase patient safety.

Salute Harborview Gala: A General’s Commendation
Held in March 2007, the Salute Harborview Gala celebrated Harborview’s mission: providing exceptional care to everyone who walks through its doors.
Gala-featured patient General John Shalikashvili, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, came to Harborview for rehabilitation after suffering a stroke that left him partially paralyzed. The general's inspiring story was showcased in a video at the gala. "Everyone is treated like a former chairman," says General Shalikashvili. "That's part of the DNA at Harborview: caring about everyone."
Watch the video to learn more about the care General Shalikashvili received at Harborview.
