About the Breakfast
Survivors Celebration Breakfast
Benefiting the Institute for Prostate Cancer Research, a collaboration of UW Medicine and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
Thursday, December 9|7:30 – 9:00 a.m.|The Sheraton Seattle Hotel
Keynote Speaker: Mitchell H. Gold, M.D., President, CEO and Director, Dendreon Corp.
At the last breakfast, keynote speaker Lance Armstrong (left) shared a triumphant moment with Steve Fleischmann, the event’s chair and founder.
The Survivors Celebration Breakfast, now in its third year, was the first event in the Pacific Northwest dedicated to raising money and awareness for prostate cancer research. The breakfast has become a symbol of strength, hope and community for prostate cancer survivors and their families.
At the 2010 breakfast, to be held on Thursday, December 9, community and business leaders will come together to learn more about prostate cancer. Prostate cancer survivors and their families will reunite to celebrate their success, to see the progress that their generosity has made possible, and to challenge themselves, their friends and the people of Seattle to keep this remarkable momentum going.
All our participants can expect an inspiring experience — and a morning they will never forget.
The Institute for Prostate Cancer Research
With your help, the breakfast’s net proceeds will benefit the Institute for Prostate Cancer Research, a collaboration of UW Medicine and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. With the creation of interdisciplinary laboratories and an influx of research support, the institute is bringing new hope to the thousands of men and their families who are affected by this disease each year.
We are delighted that Mitchell H. Gold, M.D., a resident alumnus of the UW School of Medicine and the president and chief executive officer of Dendreon Corp., will join us as the keynote speaker at this year’s Survivors Celebration Breakfast.
Dr. Gold earned a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an M.D. from Rush Medical College in Chicago. Afterward, he came to UW Medicine for residency training in general surgery and urology.
Our speaker has long been interested in the intersection of business and medicine, having served at Data Critical Corp. and Elixis Corp., two companies involved in medical information, and now at Dendreon, a local biotechnology company dedicated to developing therapies to improve cancer treatment.
At Dendreon, Dr. Gold presided over the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s acceptance of PROVENGE, a new drug for men with advanced prostate cancer, this April. We look forward to hearing more about this success — and Dr. Gold’s keen, compassionate insights into the future of prostate cancer treatment — at this year’s breakfast.
