UW Medical Center in top 1 percent of best hospitals in 2007In 2007, University of Washington Medical Center was again ranked by U.S. News & World Report in the top 1 percent of the best hospitals in the United States. In the survey published July 13, UWMC is ranked 11th in the nation among 5,462 hospitals considered for the survey, making it the highest ranked hospital west of Rochester, Minn. and north of San Francisco. Since 1993, UWMC has been ranked consistently among the top hospitals nationally by U.S. News. In specialty rankings, 10 programs offered at UWMC and/or Harborview were listed in the top 20. The University of Washington School of Medicine ranks No. 1 in primary care.In 2007, for the 14th consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report's annual list of top graduate and professional schools ranked the UW School of Medicine as No. 1 in primary care. The UW also placed in the top 10 in family medicine, rural medicine, AIDS, internal medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, women's health, and drug/alcohol abuse training.

Report to Donors 2006–2007Report to Donors 2006–2007 celebrates the individuals and groups who have contributed over the past fiscal year to UW Medicine's mission in education, research, and patient care. Highlighted in this year’s report are the investments our community has made to support research in stem cell and regenerative medicine, to provide scholarship support to diverse medical students from underserved communities, to advance burn research, and to support numerous other investments in our hospitals, patients, and students. UW Medicine Report to the CommunityThe Winter 2006 edition of the UW Medicine Report to the Community is now available. This issue contains stories on access to care, the social impact of genetic research, brain-stem surgery for hearing loss, physician workforce issues in the region, and UW Medicine Lake Union. It also has articles on research on degenerative diseases of the nervous system and on building new body parts through tissue engineering and other methods.
