I was recently sent a copy of an article highlighting my father’s [surgeon Dr. K. Alvin Merendino’s] career at University of Washington Medical Center. Thank you for publishing such an important story…it reminds me of my life as his young daughter. At the age of 15, I began a summer job at the UW as a volunteer. Because of an older sister’s positive experience as a nurse’s aide, I was also given a chance to be an aide the following summer. Some of his five daughters followed him in the medical field because of our beginnings at the University. It will for me remain one of the most memorable experiences of my life. It also schooled us as to what his career was about.
We can never know enough of this wonderful man. We wanted him to be on the front page because of the pride we felt and what we knew he’d accomplished. We marvel at his attitude and his way of sharing who he is with the rest of the world. The people he’s met and worked with all these years can attest to his value as an exemplary human being. Thank you again for shining his light, for me, one more time.
