MEDEX NW Section Chief
I graduated from the MEDEX program with Class 11 (1978) and returned to practice in Ashland, Oregon as the community’s first PA. My undergraduate degree is from Southern Oregon State College and I also earned a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Washington (1997). Barry University, in Florida, awarded me an honorary doctorate in 1999 in recognition of my political and policy leadership in the PA profession.
Senior Medical Director
I attended college, medical school, and graduate school at the University of Michigan. Then I did my internal medicine internship and residency at Duke University. I came to the University of Washington for an endocrinology fellowship and further postdoctoral work. I have been on the faculty of UW since the early 80s. My association with MEDEX began with guest lecturing in about 1987 or 1988, and I have been teaching at MEDEX ever since.
Student Services Manager
I am a Washingtonian born and raised. I grew up on Vashon Island and attended college at Western Washington University, where I earned my degree in Business Administration and Marketing in 2004. Before beginning my MEDEX career in 2005, I worked as an International Peer Advisor and event planner while at Western, and also for the Seattle Mariners as the supervisor of the team store at Safeco Field. My life outside of MEDEX pretty much consists of the Seattle sports scene (As I am an avid Seahawks and Mariners fan). I also enjoy playing other sports like golf and bowling.
Research Associate Professor
I was drawn to MEDEX by its mission and by the integrity and commitment of its staff and faculty. I am proud to have all of them as colleagues, and to be part of an organization that is so dedicated to, and so successful at, training providers who are improving health care access and outcomes every day – especially for rural and underserved populations.

I entered the MEDEX program because the school’s mission was in alignment with my own core values, and graduated with MEDEX Class 25 (class president) in 1993. My training and work history includes both rural and urban communities in Washington state. Since 1996, I have been a member of the MEDEX faculty have maintained a practice at the University of Washington Family Practice Residency.
