Didactic Site Coordinator— Spokane
I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. After graduating from high school, I spent a couple of years attempting to work my way through college. In 1971 I joined the US Air Force and became a medical laboratory technician. After advancing in rank and with increasing length of service, I was selected to attend the Air Force physician assistant program in Wichita Falls, Texas. I served as a commissioned officer in both family practice and then, after an orthopedic residency program, practiced in orthopedic surgery, retiring in 1992. Upon my retirement, our family moved to Spokane, Washington where I practiced orthopedic surgery full-time until 1997. In the fall of 1997, it was my pleasure to be part of the UW faculty to start the Spokane site of the MEDEX program. While working in orthopedics and teaching, I completed my doctorate at Gonzaga University here in Spokane in 2007. I advanced from part-time to full-time faculty, becoming the site coordinator in 2002.
