On May 19, 2013, members of MEDEX Northwest Seattle Class 46 participated in the 31st Annual Nordstrom Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes, benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). We are taking steps to help JDRF improve the lives of every person affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D) by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for preventing, better treating, and curing T1D. The money that our JDRF Team raised will go directly to expand the critical scientific understanding of T1D, a disorder that has affected members of our own MEDEX family.
The event included an 8K run in which participants raced to beat the raising of the University Bridge, approximately 2 miles into the course, as well as a 4-mile walk, 1-mile fun run, and toddler Diaper Derby.
The foundation’s goal is to raise $1.5 million in 2013. Through financial support from Nordstrom and other corporate sponsors, as well as fundraising done by family teams and others, such as MEDEX Northwest Seattle, JDRF event organizers reported an event-day estimate of over $1.3 million raised thus far.
