Welcome to the Division of Medical Genetics

Research
Research faculty cover most areas of Human and Medical Genetics and modern molecular biology. Fifteen members of our faculty are Diplomats of the American Board of Medical Genetics. Six are members of the National Academy of Sciences.

Training
The program is designed to train individuals for academic careers in human and medical genetics. The philosophy of the program is to use the most advanced concepts and techniques of genetics and cellular/molecular biology in the elucidation of problems in human and medical genetics. Research as well as clinical competence is stressed. Research activities span a wide spectrum of topics in basic and clinical human genetics. Funded training positions are available.

Clinical
The Medical Genetics Counseling and Diagnostic Center has specialists with training in numerous areas of Medical Genetics.

Medical Genetics Faculty Openings

The University of Washington invites applicants for full-time faculty positions in the Division of Medical Genetics, Department of Medicine. Successful candidates will have an M.D. and/or Ph.D., and will be expected to carry out a research program in translational genomics.

Northwest Institute of Genetic Medicine Outcomes Position

The Northwest Institute of Genetic Medicine (NWIGM) in partnership with the University of Washington is seeking a new faculty member in the Division of Medical Genetics. Successful candidates will have an M.D. and/or Ph.D. and will be expected to carry out outcomes research of genomic applications.

Gretel Motulsky: April 3, 1924-September 17, 2009



Gretel was born April 3, 1924. She married Arno Motulsky March 22, 1945. She was the youngest CPA in the State of Illinois before getting a Bachelor's Degree in Economics at the University of Washington. Gretel was a great lover of art, painting, and art history, and collected art books. She was a docent at the Seattle Art Museum for many years, more recently becoming a docent-laureate.

Everyone who knows Arno and Gretel recognizes that her support and efforts contributed to Arno's many successes. She was a remarkable person and she will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be sent to the University of Washington Arno and Gretel Motulsky Lecture or the charity of your choice.
