This Side of Doctoring: Reflections from Women in Medicine (Sage Publications).
The narratives, edited by Eliza Lo Chin, reflect the struggles and triumphs of women in medicine for the past 150 years, from pioneer doctor to present medical student. The book is organized in these categories: early pioneers, formative years, life in the trenches, internship and residency, on doctoring, mothering and doctoring, making choices, barriers, connections, balancing, our families' perspectives, and reflections.
UW School of Medicine contributors include Nassim Assefi, acting instructor in medicine and obstetrics and gynecology; Jennifer Best, medical resident; Melissa Parisi, senior fellow in pediatrics and pathology, Florence Sheehan, research professor of medicine, and Christina Surawicz, professor of medicine. Other UW-related contributors include Sheri Ann Hunt, a former psychiatry fellow; Cynthia Rasch, a UW graduate, and Emily Transue, a former medical resident.
