The Words of Medicine: Sources, Meanings and Delights, WWAMI faculty member Robert Fortuine explores the history of words and phrases used in medical terminology.
The book is arranged topically and includes terms originating with ancient Greek and Roman physicians, those from other modern languages, eponyms, acronyms and terms coined by present-day researchers. A major emphasis in the book is the imagery of medical words. The publisher is Charles C. Thomas, Inc.
Fortuine, a clinical professor of family medicine, teaches in the Biomedical Program at the University of Alaska. He joined the WWAMI faculty in 1989.
