Providing medical care to the growing, diversifying population of 50 million rural Americans creates many challenges for 21st century health-care professionals. In the
Textbook of Rural Medicine (McGraw-Hill, 2000, 487 pp), WWAMI educators offer a comprehensive guide to rural practice, from special clinical problems to technologic advances in patient care.
The editors are John Geyman, professor emeritus and former chair of family medicine; Gary Hart, director of the WWAMI Rural Research Center; and Tom Norris, associate dean of the UW School of Medicine. Hart and Norris are professors of family medicine. Twelve other UW faculty members contributed to the book.
