Sangeorzan named chief of orthopaedics at Harborview

SEATTLE -- Bruce Sangeorzan, UW professor of orthopaedics, is an internationally recognized specialist in foot and ankle reconstruction, lower extremity injury and salvage. He is the principal investigator of a large research program concerning lower limb mechanics and prosthetics. (more)

Vallieres selected as Surgery's Best Teacher of the Year

SEATTLE -- Residents and medical students have selected cardiothoracic surgeon Eric Vallieres as the Department of Surgery's Best Teacher of the Year for 1998. Award commentators noted that, on top of his excellent teaching skills, Vallieres was never absent from meetings with residents, was always was well-prepared, and didn't "shoot from the hip." (more)

SEATTLE -- Health-care administrators, community and board members, and clinicians from towns and counties involved in Programs for Healthy Communities will gather at the UW Monday, Sept. 28, for the 11th Annual Combined Communities Meeting. (more)

Kalina receives Visionary Award

SEATTLE -- Robert E. Kalina, professor and former chair of ophthalmology, has received the first Visionary Award from Community Services for the Blind and Partially Sighted. The honor recognizes professionals who work with colleagues, the community and organizations to promote rehabilitation services for people with low vision.
