New cochlear implant approved by the FDA

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Successful clinical trials at University of Washington Medical Center and 15 other sites across the country have led to recent Food and Drug Administration approval of a new cochlear implant that greatly advances the technology of restoring useful hearing. (more)

Steven E. Wilson named chair of the Department of Ophthalmology

SEATTLE -- Steven E. Wilson has been named professor and chair of the Department of Ophthalmology, effective Sept. 1. He comes to the UW from The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, where he was medical director of the Eye-Laser Center. (more)

Thirty students pursue research this summer through Medical Student Research Training Program

SEATTLE -- This summer, 30 medical students are participating in three-month research programs through the Medical Student Research Training Program (MSRTP). The program awards students $2,000 to pursue a bench, clinical or field research project under the supervision of a medical school faculty member at the UW or at one of the other WWAMI sites. (more)

William O. Robertson receives Lifetime Achievement Award

SEATTLE -- William O. Robertson will receive a 1998 Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for making contributions to pediatrics which have had a national and international impact. (more)
