University of Washington welcomes its 52nd entering class of medical students

SEATTLE -- Orientation activities for Seattle students in the UW School of Medicine's 1998 entering class will take place the week before courses begin on Sept. 21. Students will receive a welcome from the dean, take tours, engage in discussion about their medical careers, and participate in recreational activities. (more)

New Yakima Valley study to focus on farm-related injuries among children

SPOKANE -- Injuries among children who work on farms, and how these youngsters become injured, will be studied in a three-year Yakima Valley project led by Bruce Alexander, a research scientist in the UW School of Public Health and Community Medicine's Department of Environmental Health. (more)

Frederick Chen receives Glaxo Wellcome grant

SEATTLE -- Third-year UW family medicine resident Frederick M. Chen was selected for this year's Glaxo Wellcome Family Practice Resident Scholars Program. He will receive a $1,000 grant to attend the annual Scientific Assembly of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) in San Francisco, Calif., this September. (more)
