Alaska holds WWAMI state legislative conference

The Alaska WWAMI Program hosted its state legislative conference Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 in Fairbanks and Anchorage, respectively. (more)

Neuroscientists host program for eighth and ninth graders

Eighth and ninth graders learned about exciting advances in the neurosciences from leading UW experts Dec. 5.

About 90 invited students and their parents participated. The UW Department of Physiology and Biophysics collaborated on the event with the Johns Hopkins University Institute for the Academic Advancement of Youth. (more)

BB-Tower to be named after George Aagaard

The 17-story BB-Tower at the UW Health Sciences Center will be named in honor of the late George N. Aagaard. The Board of Regents approved the action Nov. 20. A ceremony is planned for early 1999. (more)

Holbrook becomes University of Georgia provost

Karen Holbrook, who was the UW medical school's associate dean for scientific affairs from 1985 to 1993, this autumn became provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Georgia. (more)

Priest/physician honored for service to the poor

Father Stan Malnar, who received an M.D. degree in 1981 from the UW medical school, was honored by Sacred Heart Medical Center, Spokane. He is a UW clinical assistant professor of family medicine. (more)
