Michael Vitiello named editor-in-chief of Sleep Medicine Reviews

SEATTLE -- Michael Vitiello, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, has been named editor-in-chief (for the Americas) of Sleep Medicine Reviews.

The journal, which publishes only invited, externally refereed reviews, examines all aspects of sleep medicine. It provides in-depth, up-to-date authoritative reviews of the full range of issues germane to sleep disorders, including etiology, diagnosis and treatment, from individual through public health perspectives.

The journal is designed to be an international forum for opinions on sleep medicine. It covers emerging controversies and debates, reviews current knowledge, and delineates future areas of research.

Vitiello, also an adjunct professor in psychology and in biobehavioral nursing and health systems, studies the causes, consequences and treatments of age-related sleep disturbances. The National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute of Aging fund this work. Vitiello is a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and an editorial board member of two of its journals.

He holds an Independent Scientist Award from the National Institute of Mental Health for research on sleep disorders.
