Whorton named acting chair of medical history and ethics

James Whorton, professor of medical history and ethics, has been named acting chair of the department, effective Feb. 1. (more)

Medical students gain clinical experience in China

This spring 12 fourth-year UW medical students will travel to Chengdu and Xi'an to complete clinical clerkships and explore traditional Chinese medicine. (more)

Tribal Connections sites selected

Sixteen American Indian and Alaska Native communities in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Montana and Idaho have been selected for a National Libraries of Medicine program that will connect them to the Internet. (more)

UW students take leading role in AMA's medical student section

Seventeen UW medical students attended the American Medical Association (AMA)--Medical Student Section 1998 Interim Meeting last month in Honolulu. Twelve represented the six WWAMI campuses as delegates or alternates. Five served in leadership positions. (more)

Trial of inhaled drug for CF patients most encouraging to date

The Jan. 7 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine contained the most encouraging study to date suggesting that tobramycin can be used as an inhaled treatment for cystic fibrosis patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa lung infections. (more)

UW Physicians logo a registered trademark

The UW Physicians logo is now federally registered as a national trademark. The logo is composed of the letters "UW" reversed out of a purple flag that slightly overlaps a gold flag with the word "Physicians" in purple. (more)
