50th class graduates; honors teachers
Tomorrow, Saturday, June 5, 160 graduates will receive M.D. degrees at the
Investiture of Doctoral Hoods and Hippocratic Oath Ceremony. The School of
Medicine's 50th class of new physicians will recognize four outstanding
teachers.

Dechet receives Griep Award
The 1999 graduating class of the UW School of Medicine will commend fellow
graduate Amy Dechet by presenting her with the Ellen Griep Award on June
5.

Two receive honorary degrees
UW surgeons Eugene
Strandness and Margaret
Allen each received honorary
degrees last month. Lund University in Sweden presented Strandness with an
Honorary Doctor of Medicine degree, and Swarthmore College presented
alumna Allen with an Honorary Doctor of Science degree.
Allen was the first woman to lead a heart transplant surgery team.
Strandness is a pioneer in vascular disease diagnostics.
