New Appointments:

Yellow arrow graphicGordon Starkebaum has been appointed the chief medical officer for the Veterans Affairs (VA) Puget Sound Health-Care System. He will also serve as an associate dean for the UW School of Medicine.

Yellow arrow graphicAlbert Berger has been named acting chair of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. He is a professor in the department. Wayne Crill served as department chair from 1983 to 1999.


UW AMC affiliates with First Choice Health Network

The University of Washington Academic Medical Center has signed a participation agreement with First Choice Health Network, Inc., to improve access to health care for thousands of Washington residents. (Full Story)

The UW and Group Health Cooperative researchers are collaborating to study the effects of prescription benefits on health-care outcomes among low-income Medicare recipients. (Full Story)

Study finds deficit in informed decision-making

A study by UW researchers published in the Dec. 22/29 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) indicates that there is not enough dialogue between doctors and patients before clinical decision are made. (Full Story)
