Lernmark publishes editorial

Ake Lernmark, R.H. Williams professor of medicine, reviewed a recent study of patients with type 1 diabetes in an editorial published in the Feb. 3 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

Lernmark, a diabetes researcher, discussed a study of 56 Japanese adults with type 1 diabetes mellitus in light of speculation that the disease may be caused in some cases by an acute viral infection or other environmental factor.


Protein interactions in yeast identified on large scale

A protein linkage map that identifies nearly 1,000 protein-protein interactions was published by UW researchers and colleagues as the cover story of the Feb. 10 issue of Nature. (Full Story)

Study shows St. John's wort is effective for mild depression

St. John's wort, a flowering plant that grows as a weed in much of the United States, is moderately more effective than placebo in the treatment of mild to moderate depression, according to a review article by UW researchers published in the Jan. 24 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine.
