Rubin listed among century's influential gastroenterologists

Cyrus E. "Cy" Rubin, professor emeritus of medicine and pathology, has been listed as one of the most influential gastroenterology professionals of the past century by an independent Web site for professionals in this field.

Rubin was recognized for his preeminence as a gastrointestinal morphologist.

Researchers draft map of rice plant genome

UW researchers have produced a working draft of the rice plant genome, the largest genome and the first plant genome to be mapped in a working draft form. Monsanto Company sponsored the project. The results will give scientists the potential to improve the production of rice, a vital food source for half of the world's population. (Full Story)

Fihn discusses quality of care in JAMA editorial

In an editorial in the April 5 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, Stephan Fihn, professor of medicine and health services and head of the Division of General Internal Medicine, comments on a study that compares methods for measuring quality of care. (Full Story)

Hudson inducted into Pulmonary Hall of Fame

Leonard Hudson, professor of medicine and head of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Harborview Medical Center, has been inducted into the Pulmonary Hall of Fame by the American Lung Association of Washington state. (Full Story)
