Project examines access to patient-care information
The UW Health Sciences Libraries recently received funding to develop a digital database of critically appraised information on common illnesses and test whether reducing barriers to the information for primary-care physicians, as well as increasing the speed at which the data is retrieved, can enhance patient care.
Stanley Fields, professor of genetics and medicine, and Sen-itiroh Hakomori, professor of microbiology and pathobiology, have been elected to the National Academy of Sciences. The announcement was made Tuesday, May 2 in Washington, D.C. (Full Story)

Medical center to construct surgery building
To alleviate overcrowding in existing hospital buildings and provide space for new programs, a three-story, 160,000 sq. ft. pavilion will be built at the east end of the UW Medical Center. (Full Story)
