Improper use of automatic restraints ups injury risk

In a study of tow-away crashes, Harborview injury prevention researchers found that front-seat occupants using automatic shoulder belts without fastening the manual lap belt had more chest and abdominal injuries.

However, the death rate was higher among completely unbelted front-seat occupants. The results were reported June 7 in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Student awards and honors announced

The medical school graduated its 51st class on June 3. Twenty-six students were inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, 14 students graduated with honors, two received thesis honors, and three received book awards. (Full Story)
