Marc Stewart will become medical director of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, effective Aug. 1.

Researchers led by Mary L. "Nora" Disis, associate professor of medicine, have determined that the HER-2/neu protein, expressed by some breast and ovarian cancer cells, stimulates an immune response that can be boosted by a vaccine in patients with breast and ovarian cancer. (Full story)

Alan M. Weiner, currently a professor of molecular biophysics and biochemistry and of genetics at Yale University School of Medicine, has been named chair of the UW Department of Biochemistry. (Full story)

Four UW medical students from Wyoming have received funding from the Earl and Bessie Whedon Cancer Detection Foundation in Sheridan, Wyo. The funding will support their cancer-related studies this summer in the School of Medicine's Medical Student Research Training Program. (Full story)
