Maynard V. Olson became acting chair of the Department of Molecular Biotechnology July 1. Olson is a professor of medicine and genetics, and an adjunct professor of computer science and engineering. He also directs the UW Genome Center in the Department of Medicine.

Nancy Kiviat, professor of pathology and chief of pathology at Harborview Medical Center, has been named a member of the AIDS and Related Research Study Section for the National Institutes of Health Center for Scientific Review. Study sections review and make recommendations on research applications for NIH funding.
