Minckler appointed

Tye Minckler has been named director of facilities development and management for the UW School of Medicine. In this new role, Minckler will guide renovation and space planning for the medical school to support its teaching and research programs.

Over 2 million square feet of space are dedicated to research alone at the medical school, including the Research and Training Building at Harborview Medical Center, the Biological Sciences Research Building II (the Rosen Building on Lake Union) and other leased properties.

Construction of a 2,600 sq. ft. Gene and Cell Therapy Core Laboratory and other renovations have been completed at the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) on the seventh floor of UW Medical Center. (Full story)

An American Academy of Pediatrics committee chaired by Steven J. Anderson, UW clinical professor of pediatrics, recently issued a policy statement warning of the risks of high-intensity training and sports specialization among children. (Full story)

David Sweetser, a UW third-year fellow in pediatrics and a researcher at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, is one of five fellows in the country who will receive a $65,000 grant for five years from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. (Full story)
