Steinberg honored

Ken Steinberg, associate professor of medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, has received the Dr. Paul B. Beeson Award for encouraging students to pursue the highest ideals of a physician in scholarship, humility, compassion and integrity. The award is named after a highly regarded professor emeritus of medicine.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) resistant to the drug ganciclovir causes serious complications among certain transplant recipients, according to a report in the Aug. 19 issue of The Lancet. Ajit Limaye, acting assistant professor of laboratory medicine and medicine, headed the study. (Full story)

Francis Collins, director of the National Human Genome Research Institute at NIH, has named UW biomedical informatics researcher and neonatologist Peter Tarzcy-Hornoch to the Ethical, Legal and Social Implications Subcommittee of the genome institute's research review group. (Full story)
