A special reunion during Medical Alumni Homecoming Weekend Oct. 6 and 7 marked the 50th anniversary of the graduating class of 1950 the first class to graduate from the UW medical school.
Two alumni were honored during the Homecoming Weekend:
Merle Sande, a 1965 graduate, received the 2000 Distinguished Alumni Award. He worked in the early 1980s on a rational, coordinated response to the emerging AIDS epidemic.
Tom Green, who earned his M.D. in 1969 and completed his residency in 1975, both at the UW, received the 2000 Humanitarian Award for his work in Central America, the Caribbean and Russia.
