Web-based brain anatomy guide launched

Researchers and students seeking an easy-to-use, computerized atlas of the brain are logging on to BrainInfo, a Web site being developed by scientists at the UW's Regional Primate Center. The site, a gateway to several neuroanatomy Web sites, locates where a structure is in the brain, what is written about it, which species have it, what it is called in many languages, how it looks, and which cells it has.


Lanphear to direct WWAMI at University of Alaska-Anchorage

Joel H. Lanphear has been named director of the WWAMI Biomedical Program at the University of Alaska-Anchorage. He succeeds Mike Dimino, who has retired. Ray Bailey has served as the acting director in the interim. (Full Story)

Vedder heads Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Nicholas B. "Nick" Vedder, associate professor of surgery and orthopaedics, has become chief of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and vice chair of the Department of Surgery. He succeeds Loren Engrav, who served as chief for 23 years. Engrav will continue his clinical activities and his research on hypertrophic scarring. (Full Story)

UW neurologist will give Jacoby Lecture on neurogenetics ethics

Thomas Bird, professor of neurology and medicine and head of the Division of Neurogenetics, will receive the George W. Jacoby Award from the American Neurological Association and will present the Jacoby Lecture Oct. 1 at the association's 126th annual meeting. (Full Story)
