Kenneth Kaushansky, UW professor of medicine and chief of hematology at UW Medical Center, has been appointed chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine. He will take up his post in March 2002. His laboratory, responsible for the cloning and characterization of thrombopoietin, will move in the spring and early summer. Kaushansky came to the UW in 1979 as an intern and became a full professor in 1995.
