Tennis challenge raises $1.4 million for UW Breast Cancer Care and Research Center

The Schick Xtreme Tennis Challenge charity match, held the weekend of Oct. 6 and 7 in Seattle, raised $1.4 million for the Breast Care and Cancer Research Center at UW Medical Center. (Full Story)

Kaushansky to chair University of California, San Diego Department of Medicine

Kenneth Kaushansky, UW professor of medicine and chief of hematology at UW Medical Center, has been appointed chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine. He will take up his post in March 2002. His laboratory, responsible for the cloning and characterization of thrombopoietin, will move in the spring and early summer. Kaushansky came to the UW in 1979 as an intern and became a full professor in 1995.


Rosse elected to Institute of Medicine

Cornelius Rosse, professor emeritus of biological structure, was one of 60 new members elected to the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine (IOM) Oct. 15. (Full Story)

Center will make information technology more accessible to people with disabilities

The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research has awarded the UW $3.5 million to establish a National Center on Accessible Information Technology in Education (AccessIT). (Full Story)

Martin named editor-in-cheif of Science's Knowledge Environment on Aging

George Martin, professor of pathology, has been named editor-in-chief of the new Science of Aging Knowledge Environment (SAGE KE) in the Web version of Science magazine. (Full Story)
