Sabos lecture, "Challenge of Change: Introducing Emerging Surgical Technologies into the Practice of Medicine, " was attended by over 200 MSU faculty, students, community members, and local physicians. The lecture and following reception were sponsored by WWAMI, the MSU College of Letters and Science and the Department of History and Philosophy at MSU.
Sabo is the 83rd ACS president and one of the first practicing surgeons from a rural area selected to lead the organization. He is a native of Bozeman who attended the University of Notre Dame and received a M.D. from Cornell University Medical College. He was a resident at University Hospitals of Cleveland and was also a general surgeon in the U.S. Air Force. His professional interests have focused on the problems associated with surgical practice in rural areas and the use of computers in both clinical practice and continuing medical education.Alexander, a fourth-year medical student, received a Community Volunteer Award. She is a member of the Grand Ronde Tribe, in Northern Oregon, and is active in Native American culture. She has volunteered her time as the resident photographer for events hosted by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and is a leader in the Medicine Wheel Society, a Native American medical student organization.
