Construction on the Surgery Pavilion at UW Medical Center is moving forward toward completion. The 160,000 square-foot facility will include 11 operating rooms and additional space for other occupants, such as a pre-surgery clinic, surgical short-stay, morning admission, surgery clinic, gastroenterology/endoscopy, urology clinic/prostate center, and imaging. The existing central supply and loading dock has been remodeled to accommodate the increased volumes of activity generated by the pavilion. A parking garage with 300 spaces will be underneath the new structure.
As part of the project, a new surgery waiting room is being built on the second floor of the passage between the Surgery Pavilion and the Muilenburg Tower. A retail and waiting area is being built on the third floor of the passageway.
Today (Friday, May 2) at noon, faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the First Friday at UW Medical Center program in Plaza Cafe. The speakers will be Mika Sinanan, professor of surgery; Helen Shawcroft, associate administrator of UW Medical Center; Patty Riley, assistant administrator of support services; and Renae Battie, operating room manager at UW Medical Center Roosevelt Ambulatory Surgery.
Some of the other School of Medicine faculty who helped plan the Surgery Pavilion are Laurie Amundsen, assistant professor of anesthesiology; Peter Buckley, associate professor of anesthesiology; Patch Dellinger, chief of general surgery; Diane Doerner, clinical assistant professor of medicine; William Ellis, associate professor of urology; Trey Green, associate professor of orthopaedics; Michael Kimmey, section chief of gastroenterology; and Thomas Trumble, professor of orthopaedics and sports medicine.
