University of Washington Medical Center was ranked 10th in the nation in U.S. News & World Reports 2003 honor roll of Americas Best Hospitals. The magazines annual survey of the countrys top medical centers will appear in the July 28 issue.
In 2002, UW Medical Center ranked 11th in the nation.
The honor roll hospitals have doctors who perform a large number of difficult procedures. The medical, nursing and other staff at these hospitals tend to adhere to advanced treatment guidelines, to incorporate new findings into patient care, and to conduct research that gives patients additional options.
In specialty care, UW Medical Center ranked as follows:
Childrens Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle ranked 15th in pediatrics. Harborview Medical Center ranked 9th in orthopaedics.
The hospital honor roll, in rank order, is: Johns Hopkins Hospital, Mayo Clinic, University of California-Los Angeles Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, Duke University Medical Center, University of California-San Francisco Medical Center, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, University of Michigan Medical Center, University of Washington Medical Center, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Brigham and Womens Hospital, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, University of Chicago Hospitals, Stanford Hospital and Clinics, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
