UW Surgery Pavilion ribbon cutting scheduled for Sept. 19

A building dedication and ribbon cutting for the UW Surgery Pavilion will take place Friday evening, Sept. 19.

The ceremonies will be part of the two-days of open house events for the new facility. A glass-enclosed sky bridge connects the pavilion to the second and third floors of the Muilenburg Tower (East Wing) of UW Medical Center. The landscape has colorful ceramic sculptures, called dangos, by Japanese artist Jun Kaneko.

The pavilion will be open for viewing by the UW community and general public from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 19, and from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Sat., Sept. 20, before the UW-Idaho football game at Husky Stadium.

All UW medical faculty, including clinical and WWAMI faculty, students, staff, residents, and volunteers are invited to attend the open house.

Patients will begin receiving care in the pavilion in October. The units that will occupy the pavilion are the Urology Clinic, Prostate Center, Pre-surgery Clinic, Surgical Specialties Center, Imaging, and Digestive Disorder Center. The pavilion also will house surgery check-in, operating rooms for ambulatory surgery, and pre- and post-surgery holding and observation.
