Foundation funds lymphoma research at UW, partners

The UW will receive $580,000 to fund research into mantle cell lymphoma as part of a $12.8-million nationwide grant package by the Lymphoma Research Foundation.

Ajay Gopal, assistant professor of medical oncology at the UW and assistant member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center’s Clinical Research Division, will lead the UW research project. The project will include research conducted at FHCRC and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Gopal’s group will examine the effectiveness of high-dose radioimmunotherapy in treating mantle cell lymphoma.

Lymphoma is the most common blood cancer and the third-most common cancer of any kind among children. Mantle cell lymphoma is a rare, aggressive form of the disease.
