Two UW faculty members were recognized on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives after being nominated for a national competition honoring women physicians.
Christina Surawicz, professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, assistant dean for faculty development, and chief of gastroenterology at Harborview Medical Center, and Raye Maestas, associate professor of family medicine, have been nominated for the Local Legends project. The program, which is sponsored by the American Medical Women's Association and the National Library of Medicine, celebrates the lives and achievements of women physicians around the country.
Surawicz and Maestas, along with Margaret Allen, medical director of the Hope Heart Institute in Seattle, were recognized by U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Seattle. The honor was listed in an issue of the Congressional Record.
