Thomas Norris, associate dean of the School of Medicine and executive director of the UW Physicians Network, has been elected president of the American Board of Family Practice. His one-year term began April 21.
Norris, also a professor of family medicine and adjunct professor of medicine, health services, medical education and biomedical informatics, has been a member of the ABFP Board of Directors for the last four years. He served as treasurer this year before being elected president.
The ABFP is the national certification board for the specialty of family practice, a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties, and the second-largest specialty board in the United States with more than 67,000 diplomates. Its mission is to improve the quality of medical care, maintain standards of care and medical education in the specialty, and determine the fitness of those applying for and holding certification.
