Five physicians in the Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho area have been named winners of the 2004 WWAMI Excellence in Teaching Awards. The awards, sponsored by the UW Department of Medicine, recognize physicians for outstanding teaching of medical students and residents in the WWAMI region.
This year's winners are Ted Lange, preceptor in medicine, and Ilana Shumsky, clinical assistant professor of medicine, both of the Medicine Service at the Boise Veterans Affairs Hospital in Boise, Idaho; John Bramante, clinical assistant professor of medicine and private practice physician in Soldotna, Alaska; Martha Stearn, clinical instructor of medicine and physician at Teton Internal Medicine in Jackson, Wyo.; and Ronald Loge, clinical professor of medicine and private practice physician in Dillon, Mont. This is the second time Loge has won the award.
The winners will receive a plaque from the School of Medicine, presented by a faculty member from the Seattle campus.
The School of Medicine's WWAMI medical education program includes teaching sites in Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. Medical students in the program complete part of their medical education and training at the UW campus in Seattle and part at towns and cities throughout the five-state region.
