NCI awards grant to study variability in mammography

Joann Elmore, associate professor of medicine, has received a $3.6 million, multi-center, five-year National Cancer Institute grant to study variability in mammography screenings. (Full Story)

The above mammogram was shown to 10 different radiologists blinded to each other's interpetations. Three out of the 10 interpreted it as being normal. Only one said it was suggestive of cancer. The arrows were not on the films when shown to the radiologists but are shown here to indicate an area that some radiologists wondered about.
