Family Practice is now Family Medicine

In response to a national trend, the UW Family Medicine Residency Network and all of its affiliated programs are changing names from family practice to family medicine. The UW department remains the Department of Family Medicine.

The national board that oversees the specialty is now called the American Board of Family Medicine; the organization that oversees residency programs is the Association of Family Medicine Residency Programs.

The Residency Network is a group of 17 family medicine residency programs throughout the WWAMI region. The network promotes excellence in family medicine residency education and provides academic leadership.

Other members of the Network also making official name changes are Family Medicine Residency of Idaho; Group Health Cooperative Family Medicine Residency; Montana Family Medicine Residency; Providence St. Peter Family Medicine Residency; and Valley Family Medicine Program.
