Veith named to VA Geriatrics Advisory Committee

Secretary of Veterans Affairs R. James Nicholson has appointed Richard C. Veith, professor and chair of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, to the Department of Veterans Affairs Geriatrics and Gerontology Advisory Committee. Itamar Abrass, UW professor of medicine and head of the Division of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine, chairs the committee. The group advises the Secretary and the Under Secretary for Health on matters concerning medical care of the elderly and the study of aging. The committee provides this guidance for the VA health-care system.

Veith is the president of UW Medicine Physicians. He formerly directed the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center at the Puget Sound VA Health Care System. He also is on the executive committee of the UW Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in Basic Biology of Aging and the advisory board of the UW Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.
