Medical Students
Opportunities for Visiting Students
The Department of Medicine accepts approximately 75 visiting U.S. medical students and osteopathic students each year to participate in a wide variety of clinical electives. Elective opportunities are available in allergy and immunology, dermatology, rheumatology, cardiology, respiratory and critical care medicine, hematology/oncology, oncology, ward medicine subinternship, infectious diseases, endocrinology, medicine consultation, and nephrology.
Successful candidates must complete the University of Washington School of Medicine's application for visiting students and meet all specified requirements. Electives are assigned to visiting students on a space-available basis only. For specific information regarding the availability of medicine electives, please contact Kellie Engle in the Department of Medicine Student Program at kaengle@u.washington.edu.
Housing for visiting students is not provided by the University of Washington. However, the Department of Medicine maintains a list of people who rent rooms in their homes to visiting medical students. Once your application has been approved, the housing list will be e-mailed to you with your Medicine elective confirmation.
