Residency
Welcome from Kenneth P. Steinberg, MD
Director, Residency Training Program
For the past 50 years, the University of Washington Internal Medicine Residency Program has been preparing residents for their roles as leaders in clinical medicine, teaching, research, administration, and innovation. Today ours is among the top residency programs in the nation, offering clinical experiences in diverse hospital and outpatient settings, access to outstanding faculty, and research opportunities in world-class laboratories.
We offer training in traditional/categorical and primary care medicine as well as a preliminary year of training for those planning to pursue other specialties. This year we have a total of 163 residents and ten chief residents.
As I begin my tenure as director of the UW Medicine Residency Program, I am mindful of the currents of change in graduate medical education as well as the challenges in health care that lie ahead across the country and around the world. We will be continually analyzing and developing our curriculum to ensure that our graduates are prepared to meet those challenges.
I invite you to review the details of our program in these pages and to contact us if you have any questions about becoming a resident in the UW Department of Medicine.
Sincerely,
Kenneth P. Steinberg , MD
