MESA DAY 2012 (National Competition)

Welcome to the National MESA Day 2012 Competition:
 
Hosted by Boeing at the Boeing Assembly Facility in Renton, WA from June 22-24. MESA Day USA is a three-day competition of academic challenges for Middle and High School MESA students from MESA Centers across country. Students from Arizona, California, Colorado, Maryland, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, and Washington along with teachers, parents and MESA Coordinators will participate in competitions in the categories of mathematics, structural engineering, and wind energy challenge (three core challenges). 

Students compete for prizes and awards which allow them to develop valuable academic and social skills as they participate in hands-on learning, team management, communication, and leadership in both oral and written competitions. MESA USA provides an opportunity for its members to share and expand strategies that work. It also allows the MESA programs to share resources and provide industry sponsors with the highest return on their investments.

This year, Washington MESA will host the MESA USA National Engineering Design Challenge in June 2012. Teams of MESA middle school and high school student delegates from nine state will visit Seattle to participate in the Wind Energy Challenge. Wind generators designed and built by MESA students will be judged in two activities: Mechanical Power and Wind to Vehicle Transfer. In addition, high school students will also be judged on Electrical Power & Wind Direction Response. Each states team will give an oral presentation, prepare an academic display, write a technical paper, and design/build their physical devices.

MESA Day is open to the public, although only MESA students from middle and high schools can participate and compete.
