YVTC MESA successfully hosted its annual Health Science Confer- ence at Columbia Basin College on 11-15-2013. With the support from our sponsors (WSU Tri-Cities, Battelle, HAPO, Kadlec, and SunWest Sportswear) and volunteer presenters, MESA was able to serve over 150 MESA students. SRAP is an eight-week summer research-based experience for students who are members of ethnic groups traditionally underrepresented in science and engineering (Hispanic, Afri- can American or Native American in ethnic origin) and are current juniors or seniors in high school. YWiS is an eight-week summer research-based experience for young women who are current juniors or seniors in high school who meet the criteria to participate. The YWiS Application and Guidelines can be found at http://science-ed.pnnl.gov/students/precollege/ywisguide.stm.
Both programs are sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and are designed for stu- dents who have a background in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) and have an interest in and potential for a career in STEM fields.
