On September 6, 2013 MESA teachers from the Yakima Valley and Tri-Cities area came together for our annual MESA Teacher Kick Off, hosted at Washington State University Tri-Cities. The kick off involved information on upcoming MESA Conferences, Competitions, additional MESA Events and Teacher Professional Development, focused on, how to create meaning to science in the classroom and how to maximize student engagement and participation in the classroom. MESA teachers also had the opportunity to get together, meet each other and share their own experiences and ideas about what works in the classroom. We love You MESA Teacher’s, We Hope You Learned Something New and Had FUN!!!
In partnership with UGO and WSU Tri-Cities, YVTC MESA was able to provide some amazing professional development opportunities for our MESA Teachers. MESA had the pleasure of working with
both Mr. Dale Ingraham, Outreach Coordinator from LIGO (Lase Interferometer Gravitation wave Observatory) and Dr. Kate McAteer, WSU-TC, Biology professor to offer two great workshops. Mr. Ingram’s worksop topic was on “Good Science, Bad Science, Junk Science, Non-Science: Managing a Healthy Science Diet for Students,” and Dr. Kate McAteer’s workshop focused on, “Using clicker technology, props, and peer learning to enhance the science/math classroom.” Thank you Dale and Kate, you mean a lot to our program!
