CURRENT RESEARCH INTERESTS
Etiologic factors for type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular
disease and their pathogenesis
are being examined in a migrant, pure Japanese-American population in Seattle.
We are especially interested in risk factors associated
with the development of central obesity (visceral obesity) and the insulin resistance
syndrome. Genetic
markers related to type 2 diabetes, obesity, and the insulin resistance syndrome are being searched
for in Japanese-American families. We are also collaborating with investigators in Japan and
in Brazil.
